There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna want to make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

This song came to mind while heading to the famous Osmena Peak in Dalaguete. A few facts about this mountain is it was named after the Osmena Clan in Cebu. It is also the highest mountain in the Queen City of the South with an altitude of 3281 ft. It is popular because of it's superb view overlooking the city and the mountain ranges that form like small chocolate hills of Bohol. Definitely, it's recommended for Selfie and Groupie pictures. Oh yeah! Kidding aside, this is already one of the must-see tourist spots in Sugbu. Scroll down for more info!
REVIEW
The experience was a mixed of nerve-racking feeling but enjoyable and at the same time fulfilling. This is my second time to camp and I was frustrated for not getting a glimpse of the sunset at the top. Thanks to my brother who arrived late! Ugh. Nevertheless, I was able to gaze at the million stars that gave me goosebumps. I felt like heaven is so near. Lol! Plus the cold weather which made it a typical campsite during summer. During late evening until mid morning, the fog makes the surrounding even more colder. It is a MUST that you get the proper gear and outfit when camping. As for our group,we only brought one tent which is suited for 4 people. However, we were 6 adults and 1 kiddo slept inside this not so spacious tent. Those were the moments when I wished that morning would come ASAP and prayed that God should fast forward the clock. Haha! Definitely, lessons were learned but most importantly we had an awesome hike!
When morning came, we cooked our breakfast. The portable mini stove is very helpful and convenient forcooking. From afar, there were lot's of hikers going up to the peak to take photographs around 7AM. Although the fog is still thick and misty, that didn't prevent campers from going up
Some were very fascinated with the view that they didn't want to let others take their spot. Whew! Yet we managed to take great pictures in spite of the growing crowd. Just be ready with your
cameras and make sure it's fully loaded. The green grasses are refreshing to the eye with a breath of fresh air and cold wind. It's a very relaxing place to spend your summer weekend.
HOW TO GET THERE?
THE 3 - HOUR BUS TRAVEL
The recommended time to travel by bus is around 12 noon. Why? So you can still take photos of the sunset at the peak and get a good spot if you plan to stay overnight. From Cebu South bus Terminal to Dalaguete, it takes approximately 3 hours. You can take the Oslob bus and inform the conductor to drop you off at Mantalungon - 7 eleven store. Just a tip, traffic is your enemy so it is advisable to leave early.
THE HABAL-HABAL RIDE
In front of the 7 eleven store, usually a lot of habal-habal(motorcycle) drivers are picking up passengers going to the peak. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the foot of the mountain. Sure thing is, it's not a bumpy ride but it's quite a roller coaster one. Two passengers can ride per habal-habal/motorcycle.
THE CLIMB
Once you're at the foot of the mountain, a lot of tour-guides are waiting for campers to be accompanied with a fee. You can opt for not getting one if you already know the trail. We arrived at 7 pm so we paid one tour-guide to assist us in going up. Before trekking, you have to list down the names in the group at the registration area and pay some fees. Once everything is all set, it takes 20 minutes to get to the peak. The trail is not much of a challenge because halfway to the peak is flat and well-trodden whereas the steep part is from the starting point to midway. NO SWEAT dude! ππ°π°πΈπΈπΉπΉ
EXPENSES
The breakdown is not inclusive of food yet. As for my peers, we made a budget of 600 PHP per head with food(dinner & breakfast included) and transportation. Please see below for the fare and other fees needed:
Overall, another great moment to add to my timeline. #YOLO! Watch the video below:
