Patag na pa Fall
Plans don't usually turn out the way we expect it to be. Some gets worse, some brings the best out of us which makes it more exciting and gives that thrilling experience. Indeed! Our Patag mountain escapade was one I couldn't forget. When i recalled what happened, it brought a big amused smile on my face.
Patag is located in the mountanious part of Silay City, an hour and a half drive from Bacolod. I've been asked many times where to go near my hometown. I'd always recommend the white beaches and tourist spots such as Lakawon or Sipalay and Campuestohan for those who want some rides in the mountains. But little did I know that Patag showcases such beautiful waterfalls and verdant scenery. I realized it should be on my list of recommendations now. Just look at the traces below.
My two constituents Crystal and younger bro Xian went with me for a day hike supposedly. However, things turned out the opposite way. We departed from Bacolod past 10am and arrived in Silay via Northbound bus at 1130am due traffic. Then we headed to the jeepney station going to Patag which would take an hour drive. We were confident that we can just return to the city late in the afternoon. But the dispatcher of the jeepney told us that it would be the last trip of the day! Whaaat??? Uhm. I was silent for a moment then Christian blurted out 'No choice, overnight na this!" There you go, we decided to stay for the night and go back to the city early morning. They offer habal2 ride going back to the city but for 500 PHP. No thanks! I'd rather stay at the hospital.
Christian in the jeep with the passengers on the way. Serious look.
Crystal took a power nap.
The funny but scary thing was when we reached the drop off area (the hospital), we found out that the locals have made it a place for hikers to stay overnight for only 100Php per pax. Sounds really cheap huh?! Other resorts range from 500 - 800 php for an overnight stay per room. However, they are a kilometer away from the drop off area. We were kinda hesitant to stay at the hospital but after a cup of coffee at Balay Kapihan just a few steps away, we decided to face our fears..hahaha. We learned that some of the campers were also staying there which brought a little hope to us that we are not alone. Lol. Mind you, they have a swimming pool on the other side and some kubo(huts) around the area. Sorry didn't take a picture of it.
Apart from the huts and pool at the hospital, we were curious of this historic weapon during Japanese era. Kuya guide told us that this was used by the Japanese soldiers to target fighter planes of their enemies during the World War. So we tried using it. Oh men! It was heavy that my whole body needs to bend just to raise it. I could imagine the Japanese soldiers stamina and endurance were like. Amazing!
On another note, our goal was to visit three waterfalls, however, due to time constraint we only went to see two of them: The Dumalabdab and the Dam falls. Both offers a magnificent beauty of nature. Let me tell you why with these stunning photos.
Our tour guide led us to a 30 min- hike from the hospital to the starting point of the Dam falls trail. It was a steep hike where we passed by some of the resorts on a cemented road.
The trail going to dam falls was a bit slippery due to the rainy weather in the past few days. But it was manageable for a 15-20 min trekk.
I took pleasure of the raging water. The current was so strong that it's really good as a back massage.
Since it was around 230PM when we reached Dam falls, we only stayed for a few minutes and headed to Dumalabdab falls.
The starting point of the Dumalabdab falls is through Elena resort where we paid a 10php entrance fee each. It was a 20min downhill hike as I estimated as shown in the pics above.
Along the way, our tour guide told us a short historical story about this hole which we took some selfies. Kuya said that it was a hiding place of the Japanese soldiers during the war. For them not to get hurt by bombs thrown by their enemies, they hid and took rest on this curved and small tunnel-like which exits on the other side. My mind wandered as Kuya narrated his story. We didnt try going inside the hole, it was a little scary though.
After taking our selfie shots, we continued our trekk and the trail is a bit challenging since it was downhill and the temperature is getting colder. After 15 minutes of hiking, finally, we have witness right in front of us the breathtaking 30 feet tall waterfalls. I was in awe with its gorgeous form. Without further ado, we took our own pictures in every angle. The most surprising thing was, we were able to go near the bottom of the falls. With carefulness, we did make our own spot and enjoyed the picturesque view of the beautiful Dumalabdab falls.
In a nutshell, if you are the type who wants some cardio exercise, someone who loves nature, and a hunger for adventure, definitely this is a thumbs up.
