Malapascua - Kalanggaman with a love story
For the most part of my journey, I always look forward to the sunsets and sunrise. The photo above was taken at Malapascua with my bro trying to capture a picture of the sun settling down. I've read many posts that sunsets at Malapascua are the best. Indeed, the sun's round-shape form was perfect with its vibrant colors. It was superb! One shouldnt miss it! Apart from this wondrous beauty at the horizon, you wouldn't say no to the white sand and turquoise water too.
However, all these awesome creations came with a cost — time, money and patience. Why I said so? Sometimes, plans don't go well as it was organized. Let me tell you what happened during our journey.
We took the vhire at Northbus terminal around 230 am going to Maya port. It was roughly a 3 hour non stop travel by van. We were asked by the van dispatcher where we would want to be dropped off : New maya or Old maya port? We chose the latter. I made the wrong decision. This is something that I want to share to all of you who are planning to visit Malapascua. Please choose the New maya port if you want to have a stress free adventure and avoid delays.
To share solely what we have experienced when we were at the old Maya port, we were told that 630am would be the first trip. The boatman advised us that as long as there will be 5 passengers, then we'll leave for Malapascua. However things turned out badly. The boatman and this old lady, whom they said is the owner of the land, argued whether to let us leave or not. We waited almost an hour and ended up going to New Maya port soaking wet because of the heavy rain. It was frustrating! Nevertheless, God is so good that we made it to new maya port without hassle because the other two passengers let us hitched in their truck as they have decided to go that route too. Thanks guys!
I definitely would NOT recommend going to Old Maya port unless you already have a contact person to arrange a pumpboat for your group. Please do Take note, they only cater to pre arranged trip for large groups!
The weather wasnt pleasant and heavy rainfall poured down when we reached New Maya port. The couple passengers who let us hitched in their truck decided to go home since it was not good for their little girl. But we decided to stay. Finally! We left the New port at 9AM and arrived 930AM in Malapascua. Great news is! The boat to Kalanggaman still waited for us. Yehey! Its when we met the lovely couple, Ate Pinky and Kuya Alex, who also wanted to witness Kalanggaman island's beauty. This is what I love about traveling. You get to meet people and know their story.
Let me share their love story(with permission of course)! They were childhood friends on the same neighborhood. Kuya Alex had a crush on Ate Pinky during their childhood years. However, they tied their knots with different partners. Long story short, each of their marriages never worked and they divorced with their partners. To fast forward their story, they've been keeping in touch through chat and finally met each other again in person recently. I can tell that they're so inlove by how they talk and stare at each other. So sweet of them(parang lalanggamin na kmi!) hahaha. They decided to travel together to different places in the Philippines. One of the places they wanted to visit is Kalanggaman island. We took pictures with them and enjoyed chatting just for a short period of time. They were so cool! Ate Pinky is very caring and Kuya Alex is so witty. Thanks for the fleeting moments yet very memorable of knowing such a beautiful couple.
This is the 4th day escapade of my 9 days vacation. As this was my post birthday celebration, we haven't fully decided if we would go to Bantayan or Malapascua. We cancelled the plan 2 days before and settled with 'piggy out' option because of the issues with my work schedule. But God doesnt want me to be sad on my birthday, He did find a way! Olah, So we pushed through with the Malapascua - Kalanggaman trip.
I and Xtian haven't been to Malapascua. Being first timers, all the 'wh' questions popped out on our heads. I did my assignment in researching the budget and stopovers. Thus, we only relied on the info we gathered online as our guide.
It turned out well. It was an amazing birthday gift to spend my special day with natural beauty of God’s creation. Below is the proof of the beautiful sunset in Malapascua! Who wouldn't agree to such natural beauty! We’ll surely come back next year! :-)
