Strangers at Kalanggaman Island
The best thing about travelling is meeting new faces with similar interests. We meet people in our lives in surprising, memorable ways regardless of how close the relationship becomes. Logically, we realize thereafter that something was bound to happen for the sole benefit of doing new things you never thought you could do. Unexpectedly, plans don't go the way we want it to be. However, there is always a purpose in every delay that happens in our journey. It's not a coincidence but a reason behind pops up as we see the bigger picture of the situation.
Another escapade made my experience more elating when I met people by chance. Apart from the Kalanggaman island being a splendor, some things happened out of the blue which tested my
adaptability and decision making skills. Really? Yes, it sounds OA. Truth be told, you'll get to learn new skills when travelling.
Kalanggaman is about an hour from Palompon Leyte. Since i was travelling from Cebu, I spent almost 6 hours both sea and land travel to get to this gorgeous island. Imagine? It was a long 6 hour travel which I never had much sleep since I came from a nightshift work. Nevertheless, it was all worth the long trip. I was invited by my joyful officemate, Mary Joy, and her sister, beshie. They were from Tacloban City and wanted to explore the beautiful Kalanggaman.
It was Lenten season when we visited the island. The place was kinda full packed when we arrived mid Thursday afternoon. We pitched our tent and decided to take a short rest. When late afternoon came, wow! Mr. Sunrise showed off his summer colors. The three of us immediately took our own pictures and selfies.
Dinner was over and time to taste the alcohol. Rhum was such a downer! Probably coz we were tired so only half of the bottle was consumed and all were knocked down. Zzzzzz! A loud shout awakened the silence of the dawn. Someone got drunk and went wild. Good thing there were police officers in the area. Everyone went back to slumber after half an hour. Oh yeah. Alcohol abuse is a no-no! Unsurprisingly, my two sleeping mates were never interrupted the fuss. Amazing these girls are! Haha
Anyway, decision making was needed when morning came. We were supposed to go back home the following day but it was a Good Friday. No bus or boat trips guaranteed due to the holiday. Whew! It was hard since we only bought food good for 3 meals. How to budget? Eat as little as you can. Hahaha. Diet unplanned!
Kidding aside, God provides with the things that you need. With Joy being sociable, she built rapport with this couple from Laguna. I couldn't forget their names, Ate Jasmine and Jigs Suico. They were such a blessing and they were our new found friends. To top it all, we enjoyed each others company. Luckily, they shared their food with us. Hehe. God is so good..I couldn't be more grateful and happy if we went back home.
We took advantage of the extended time, explored the bird shaped island, took unlimited photos of the superb beauty beholding us.
To sum up everything, Kalanggaman is a must-go-back-to destination. A truly spectacular creation which one should be adding it on his/her bucket List. Yet, brace yourself for the long travel, limited access to clean water supply and food.
I will certainly go back next summer! See u!
